The stop Waltershof is located in the southern part of the Hamburg harbor, surrounded by container terminals, storage areas, and operational sites. It belongs to the functional docks of HADAG, but is only used irregularly in scheduled services or as part of special trips. The location is not designed for public traffic, but is primarily intended for employees in the port who travel to work by water.
The surroundings may seem uninviting at first glance – it’s all about logistics, transshipment, and transport here. Unfortunately, there are no cafes, lounge areas, or promenades, but Waltershof is still intriguing. This is mainly due to the rare insight into the ongoing port operations. If you are interested in the infrastructure behind container handling, you can at least watch from a distance.
Waltershof itself is not a classic tourist destination. However, in sight is the Köhlbrand Bridge. Even if you cannot get directly to it, you will see and feel how large it is and how important its connection between industry and the city is. To the south are parts of the Container Terminal Altenwerder, which, with its automated technology, is an interesting example of modern port logistics. Those interested in the harbor can include Waltershof as a stop on a harbor cruise or photo tour – for a brief but intense glimpse behind the scenes.
Tip: If you want to experience more, get off at the next stops – for example, at the Landungsbrücken or in the museum harbor Övelgönne.
The Waltershof stop belongs to the HADAG ferry line 61, which runs from the Landungsbrücken via Finkenwerder.
The next and final stop is Neuhof.
